It’s just started. For those not in the know, Eurovision is the largest singing competition in the world with over 200 millions viewers across 50 countries. This year 26 countries are participating in Stockholm, Sweden.

So if you aren’t busy, and want to see just how weird the various countries of Europe (plus Israel and Australia) can get. This is the first year it will be broadcast in the USA available on logoTV.com

I highly recommend it for the batshit factor.

The winner was Ukraine! followed by Australia and Russia.

I would gnaw off a limb to avoid that ....

That’s not fair! A few years ago a bearded lady from Austria won it. The Netherlands just had a nice Country and western number. Give it a chance man.

Yup, watching it now, but must admit our Dutch competitor is quite good, whereas the rest seems to be the usual weirdness.

My parents will be watching it on Russian TV, and will root for Armenia. Then, they will call me and give me a play-by-play of all the performances despite my objections.

Eurovision, home to such epic memes as this:

I’ll probably tune in when they do the quick recap just before the votes. I’m not drunk enough (yet) to endure the whole thing.

I gave myself a gift a long time ago: no singing contests, awards shows, reality TV (unless you count Kitchen Nightmares) State of the Unions, press conferences, debates, none of it. I can get the highlights online, and I’m the better for it.

The Dutch entry was great! I’m not impressed with our entry, no mainstream artists take it seriously over here.

As usual I imagine Deutschland was get many, many more points than us.

Yes. Last one was meant to be a one off for Australia but I think they’re keeping them in and trying to further expand it into a world wide song contest.

I used to watch it with the subtitles on. They were always subtitled into English, sounded great in their native tongue but translated, they were mental.

I only caught the start of Bosnias and that it was about spousal abuse or something.

Well, I sent it to Karlsruhe, they sent me a letter confirming that they received it, and that they will send it back on time for me to resume driving on Monday May 30th. They acknowledge that I mailed it on April 29th, so they set April 30th as the first day the driving ban became effective.

They even accepted the fact that my official residence and my new address don’t match (didn’t get around to change that yet) and sent the confirmation to my new place.

Efficient German bureaucracy at its best. At least so far.

Not really, we usually don’t get many points from our neighbours. Whereas for example in the Balkans where they hate each others guts, and just fought a war a decade ago, they always vote for each other.

Thought that episode was over. I felt bad for you - if I lost my license, I’ve got good public transportation. But if you need a car for work, or if you live in the suburbs ....

Well, my school is 2.5 kms away, the weather was perfect so far, and my students think it’s somewhat cool that at least one of their teachers isn’t a lazy lard ass. Although it’s a bit embarassing when my 5th graders fly past me on their little toy bikes, while I keep a slow pace on my road bike as to not arrive sweating like a pig. I also start to like the extra exercise.

But yeah, I am lucky that I can easily live without driving. I’ve had jobs/lived in places where that wasn’t the case. Imagine our friend Desu-San-Desu, and others who live in the boonies, with such a suspension. They’d loose a month’s pay, and probably even their jobs.

I’d rather watch BBC cop shows, Law & Order (only with Jerry Orbach), horror movies, car shows, dramas, even some comedies (pick up Blunt Talk if you haven’t). I’d probably rather bang my head against a wall. Thank you for your support.

It was fairly tame compared to recent years. It was nail biting to the end but we (UK) never stood a chance.

One of the things that always amused me is that it’s from Eurovision 2010, but the male performers look like what, at least in the U.S, was the fashion trend in the late 90s/early 2000s.

At the risk of incurring some wrath, a few of the former Soviet bloc countries are a bit behind the times.

Saying that, we’ve had some real howlers over the years, see Skooch and Engelbert Humperdinck.

No, but the site mentioned that in their review comic.

If this was turned into a drinking game where every time you gave someone a card they also had to take a drink how long would it be before everyone was dead?
